FIRST BIRTHDAY CAKE SMASH PHOTOSHOOT IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS

Escher’s first birthday cake smash photoshoot is my idea of the perfect milestone session! I love the simple background mixed with the classic colorful birthday props, confetti, balloons + cake. Escher is wearing his dad’s old overalls from when he was a kid, a sentimental touch that really takes the cake.

He wasn't super interested in his cake, and we got so many adorable images regardless! Through photographing so many cake smashes, I have learned there are two basic reactions kids tend to have when they get their first bite of cake. Option one is they dive right in, make a mess, and eat as much cake as they can get their hand on. Option two they approach cautiously, try the frosting and turn their interest to the other props around them. No matter what approach your kid takes to their first birthday cake, the photos will be adorable and document their first birthday milestone!

I always encourage parents to be involved in some of their kid’s first birthday photos, if only just a few at the beginning. We wait and do the big cake smash event at the very end, for clean up purposes.
